What is the Knotty Elephant all about?

Our Story

George "Snowy" Connolly had three enormous and unusual childhood friends. Their names were Molly, Waddy and Tony, the famous elephants that lived at the Frankin Park Zoo in Boston.

Snowy lived very close to the zoo and spent much of his childhood around the elephants. Snowy loved to draw, especially his elephant friends and all the other animals at the zoo, but aiso, all the people who came to visit Molly, Waddy and Tony.

Snowy's personal relationship with the elephants inspired him to create his own children's storybook about Molly, Waddy (whose name was changed in the book to Wally), and Tony the Knotty Elephant.

The book was originally published in 1965, and on the 50th anniversary and my father's 100th birthday, "The Knotty Elephant Store" was opened. The legend of these wonderful performing elephants was so incredibly interesting that the story had to be told.

Our new book, "The Forgotten Adventures of Tony The Knotty Elephant" is now available and chronicles the complete history and adventures of the most intelligent performing elephants in the entire world, culminating with the greatest children's celebration of all time at Boston's Fenway Park.
